HopeHealth at Francis Marion University

HopeHealth and Francis Marion University are pleased to announce
the opening of a satellite office on FMU's campus. At the end of
February, Dr. Paul DeMarco, FMU's director of Rural Community
Health Programs, began accepting HopeHealth patients at the new
office located in the FMU Education Foundation building.
"Our volume of new patients consistently grows, and FMU has
offered us an ideal opportunity to accommodate these patients
quickly and with the same attention and compassion they receive at
our main site," said Carl Humphries, chief executive officer at
HopeHealth. More than 2,300 new patients chose HopeHealth as their
health care home in 2010, and demand continues to grow.
Dr. DeMarco, who has practiced medicine in underserved rural
areas more than 17 years, is seeing patients 20 hours a week in the
student health center at the FMU Education Foundation building.
HopeHealth has hired Eunice Rabon, RN, to assist Dr. DeMarco. Since
the launch of this partnership, he has seen more than 100 new
patients.
HopeHealth patients who see Dr. DeMarco have access to all the
services other HopeHealth patients receive, including discounted
prescriptions through our pharmacy, access to behavioral health
care services, referrals to specialty care and assistance with
prescription drug assistance enrollment. There is an in-house
laboratory at the HopeHealth at FMU site for added
convenience.
"I don't believe that medical care is a commodity," said Dr.
DeMarco, "I believe that if you need medical care, you ought to be
able to see a doctor, so that has been a very satisfying part of
this practice."
The HopeHealth and Francis Marion University partnership is
mutually beneficial to both organizations; it provides HopeHealth
the increased ability to serve more patients and allows Francis
Marion University to expand learning opportunities for its students
as it grows its health programs.
"This new partnership with HopeHealth is indicative of the
university's commitment to serve our region through community
outreach initiatives," said FMU President Luther F. Carter. "Not
only will the combined resources of the university and HopeHealth
expand access to quality health care, the new site will also
provide additional opportunities for our students to engage in
experiential learning through internships and practicum
programs."
New patients have the option to come to HopeHealth's main clinic
or to be seen by Dr. DeMarco at Francis Marion University. For more
information about becoming a patient, please visit our website
or call (843) 667 - 9414.
