HopeHealth observes National Health Center Week with a picnic in the park and a tour of new facility

NHCW Picnic 2011

HopeHealth marked National Health Center Week 2011 (NHCW) with a picnic for the community in Timrod Park on August 6.  NHCW ran August 7-13 and sought to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America's Health Centers.

On August 6, we offered the community an opportunity to come out and enjoy free food, drinks, games, and health education in Timrod Park from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.  In addition, we offered tours of our newest facility on Cherokee Road, an opportunity to meet our providers, and health screenings.

The event was a tremendous success.  We hosted a steady stream of visitors at the Cherokee office, who took tours of the facility, visited with doctors, and got their cholesterol and blood pressure checked.  We served over 300 hot dogs, played carnival games in the park with children, and shared HopeHealth's mission with the community.

 More on America's Health Centers

Health centers provide a health care home to over 23 million people at 8,000 sites nationwide.  Their model of care was rated as one of the most effective programs by then-President George W. Bush's Office of Management and Budget. Indeed, presidents from both parties and Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have long-recognized the value of health centers and supported their expansion.

Health centers are on track to expand their care to 40 million people over the next five years.  With more health care homes in communities, we can reduce health care costs and unnecessary hospitalizations and visits to the hospital emergency rooms.

According to the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), there are 60 million people in the country with limited or no access to primary care providers - a trend that shows no sign of improving with the economic recession.

HopeHealth provides access to primary health care to members of the community.  HopeHealth accepts most private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare, and works closely with patients who lack adequate health insurance to help them qualify for a sliding fee discount program.
