HopeHealth hosted an open house Tuesday to show the Pee Dee its new facility and all the ways it can be a boon for community.

Executive director Carl Humphries said the new facility is everything he could have hoped for and then some. He said the employees of HopeHealth are proud to show it off.

"It's important that the community know what we do and understand where we are at," he said. "So we decided to give the community a chance to come see our new facility and learn about our services."

Everything about the new building is better, and often bigger, Humphries said.

"We have a lab," he said. "Our clinic is three times the size of the one in our previous building which allows us to expand our services."

Even the administrative areas are bigger, which will allow HopeHealth more space to better serve the community.

"We have a pharmacy in this facility," Humphries said. "Long's Pharmacy is partnering with us."

"But the on-site pharmacy isn't just for patients of HopeHealth," Humphries said.

"It's for our patients that comes here, but it's also for the community; it's a retail pharmacy," he said.

Billy Bonner, one of seven case managers at HopeHealth, said the new layout of the building allows for more privacy for patients.

"We have seven case managers, so we have seven offices," he said. "This area is for our HIV patients only, so they have a little more privacy."

One important aspect of the new facility would be changing the clinics paper records into electronic files, Humphries said in a previous interview.

"We're in the process of implementing our electronic data records," Yvonne VanCamp, quality manager for the facility, said. "Right now we've got three interns helping us to do that."

"The best part about the open house," VanCamp said, "is that they get to brag about the upgrades that will benefit the entire community."

The new facility will feature a dedicated pediatric exam room, which is one of 12 exam rooms in the new clinic. It also will have a specific lounge for clients, a counseling area and a new doctor's office.

But, everyone attending the open house agreed that the new pharmacy is the best addition to the clinic.

"We've been partnered with HopeHealth for over two years, but now we're in house," pharmacist Don Courtney said.

HopeHealth, originally founded to secure treatment and testing for HIV and AIDS, expanded its services in 2007 to include primary care for any patients who need medical care in the Pee Dee. The new clinic is located at 600 E. Palmetto St., Florence.
