Pink Party was a Success!
On March 10, HopeHealth Lower Savannah hosted a "Pink Party" for the female HIV positive clients. Some clients were very uncertain about attending the party because of the stigma associated with an HIV/AIDS diagnosis. They were hesitant about confronting the very women with who they share a common bond. However, the ladies quickly realized that there were no hidden agendas, no judging, no gossip, no games, no cliques or clubs, no legalism or religiosity. The Pink Party allowed women of all shades, walks of life, ages, personalities, and social statuses to come together in unity and with one accord. As staff members Nikki Copeland, Barbara Hightower, and Niki Dawkins created a peacefull and stress-free atmosphere with a feminine pink theme, the ladies shared stories of hope, strength, inspiration, and encouragement. The gathering gave the women a chance to relate to others who are dealing with an HIV diagnosis. Spirits were lifted in knowing that others share the same issues and concerns, and that life can be good after a HIV diagnosis. The support group meets monthly to discuss issues and topics that are important to the women.
